Snid Tributes
Gareth Jones Tributes
As a club we have been overwhemed by the thoughtful tributes we have received from across the world following the passing of Gareth Jones. To leave your own tribute to Gareth please visit our guestbook.
In response to the overwhelming number of messages and floral tributes received since his passing, Gareth Jones' family has set up a memorial fund in his name.
The Gareth Jones Trust Fund has been opened to help ensure his three children Courtney, Cole and Connie will have money available to help provide
for their everyday needs.
With his daughter Connie now only four months old and the eldest of his children Courtney only eight this will be a big task. We ask that any individuals or companies wishing to make a contribution to this young family please send their cheques to: Neath Rugby Ltd, 13 Old Market Street, Neath, SA11 3NA and we will pass these onto his family. Cheques should be made payable to "The Gareth Jones Trust Fund".
Alternatively if you would like to email us with your thoughts or suggestions on fundraising events or indeed if you would like to hold an event yourself in your work place, local club or community please contact us at snid@neathrugby.co.uk and we will of course pass these onto Gareth's family.
Neath Rugby
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to pass on my deepest sympathies to Snid's family. We at Neath have lost a special person and a great rugby talent.
My personal memories will be of a larger than life character who created a happy and fun environment at the club.
His inclusion in the Neath squad during 2006/07 was a major reason why we won the league, he just seemed to settle in straight away.
He certainly kept me on my toes and his sharp sense of humour always brought on reality to, at times, trying situations.
I could probably file this book with the laughes we have had together and your kindness as a friend, all special memories.
Quite simply Snid, I miss you, I really really do and its so difficult to stop writing!
Rest in peace
Rowland

I am sure I speak for all Snid's teammates in expressing our deepest sympathies to his family at this terrible time. He was such an extraordinary character and a real bundle of energy with a lovely jovial side. Indeed, my favourite memory is picking him up for the club dinner and laughing all the way to Neath as he regaled me with his wonderful stories. He had a word for every occasion with an honesty and passion that endured him to all he connected with.
Rugby is clearly a side issue at this moment but I know for certain how proud Snid was in pulling on the shirt and being successful - this ambition burned in him and it was an honour and privelige to coach him.
Snid - you will always be in our hearts and never forgotten, a real legend.

Snid
You would have been well chuffed with your funeral yesterday mate.
People turning up 2 hours early and then when you made your entrance the place stood still and it seemed like the world had stopped for a few moments as there was complete silence.
Then it was up the rugby and social we drunk the place dry in your memory and everyone from neath, beddau, ponty and glync swapped stories about you .

I was lucky enough to have known Snid a little. The last time I saw him was a couple of years ago, in B&Q where he was buying paint to decorate his daughter's bedroom. He was his usual happy self and we chatted about his rugby (I asked him about his move to Neath) and his gorgeous daughter (I hadn't known he was a father, he looked so proud). Since hearing of Snid's accident, he has been in my thoughts every day and my dreams one night. Such a tragic loss. My thoughts go to his good friends, team mates and his family, especially his partner, his parents and children. The crowds of people standing in silence outside the chapel as his funeral took place inside today was so unique. I have never seen so many people remain silent for such a long time. What a mark of respect to a clearly amazing person. Wish I had known Snid better, even knowing him a little, I can't imagine that I will ever forget his handsome, happy face. Such a tragic, unfair death makes me question what life is all about. Snid seemed to know what life was all about, living it with passion and positivity and earning the love and respect of so many people. I will learn from this. Rest in peace Snid x

What a tremendous send off you had today Gareth - there must have been over 1000 family and friends at your funeral. Your family really did you proud and held themselves together with such courage and dignaty. For such a young person its amazing that you touched so many peoples lives in a short time.
It was also great to see two great rugby clubs Neath and Ponty coming together and stand side by side to play tribute to you today.
Your will always be remembered by us at Neath and as Rowland said we were lucky to have had such a colourful charachter as a member of our Neath family. RIP Snid, God Bless XX

If we could bring you back again,
For one more hour or day,
We'd express all our unspoken love;
We'd have countless things to say.
If we could bring you back again,
We'd say we treasured you,
And that your presence in our lives
Meant more than we ever knew.
If we could bring you back again,
To tell you what we should,
You'd know how much we miss you now,
And if we could, we would.
An honour to have been in the presence of such a man!
Our deepest sympathy goes to all of Gareth's (Snid's) family.

I wipe away the tears each day, not for the mourning, which is real
But for the way that I remember you and the way you made me feel.
A smile so infectious that it should be prescribed on the NHS for all to enjoy.
A smile that will always live on, especially in your girls and boy
Laughter was your middle name and was there for all to see
Words cannot express the effect you had on me
A true welsh hero, who was destined for greatness and good
But taken far too quickly the way no person should
God rest you Gareth, as you continue on your path
To come off the bench and seal the win in the second half

Pontypridd
Snid was an excellent, passionate and commited rugby player who I watched make his debut for Pontypridd and through all his time at Pontypridd, he then went on to succeed at Neath.
More than that though he was generous with his time and his sense of humour. Down to earth, gritty, funny and endearing always having words for the Ponty faithful (including myself)whenever he was back at Sardis Road.
Words will not be enough for his family and my thoughts are with them and his three young children who he will be remembered by. R.I.P. Gareth "Snid" Jones, you will be missed.

Snid was unique, a one off. Larger than life character, bursting with energy, always joking and positive to the last. Being Captain on his arrival at the club it was my role to welcome him into the playing squad, but Snid being Snid he had already introduce himself to everyone.
Liked by all, I cannot remember anyone having and bad word for Snid. Great bloke to be around, pushy on the field, competitive, all the requirements of a great scrum half which he was!!
I will miss him greatly. My thoughts are with his family.

Gareth Snid Jones a true proud welshman. Gareth, my cousin, my friend, my star. My heart broke on the 20th April when your Dad phoned me and said what had happened.
I cried so much, cause you were so full of life and full of fun. Always up to mischief with a fantastic smile which lit up any room you were in.
I have so many memories of you snid, I could write a book. My last memory of you, was when we had a leaving party for your sister aimee. On the Friday before your accident at the bar, in Glyncoch Social, you came up to me and said "get me one in!", while you went to the loo. When you came back I was still in the queue so you picked my up by my waist as if I was waiting for a line out ball on a rugby pitch. Well I soon got served and we sat together and started taking photos. I look at the photos of me and you every night because you're no longer with us all.
But snid you will always be in my heart forever, miss you so much, hate every day when I wake up. Your memories will live on in everyone who had the pleasure of knowing you snid. I put on a brave face for your Dad, my uncle, and your sisters. When I pick up your daughter connie, I just can't believe how much she looks like you. Especially when she smiles. When she gets older everyone will know who her dad was, just by her smile. She's beautiful just like you. The Prayer I say every night are for my 3 little cousins. Snid you know what my promise was in my prayer last night to you.
Snid don't party the angels too hard, my star, my cousin, my friend. Love you with all my heart, Love, your one and only Tina Taz, Party Animal as you used to call me.
Until we meet again, my Star, My cousin, my friend, Snid Jones. A true proud Welshman. x

Living in north wales never really got to see Gareth play - But knowing what its like to lose someone so young would like to say that we could all live to 120 yet never have the respect that I have seen from the comments on this guest book.
While living through the pain of this loss these words may mean nothing but in time to come they will bring back a memory and raise a smile and for the children he has left behind keep his smile alive in their hearts. To everyone who has left a message thank you for introducing me to a special man.
To his family & friends I send Love,Hope,Care and the respect I've learned from everyone who knew Gareth.

Leicester Tigers fan
It is with great regret that ~ hearing about your news I am writing this email. I am a Leicester Tiger fan through and through but when it comes to circumstances like this, rugby takes over. I am good friends with Matt Hampson (the prop that broke his neck in England) and I can partly understand your pain you are going through. I am by no means comparing the situation but just trying to understand why things happen to young players. Ultimately this is the sport they chose and I honestly think that they (we) would not think any different. Rugby is unique and everyone who plays it buys into that.
Let me just wish you all the best with the immediate future and its diffucult times and I genuinely wish the family/club all the best.
