FORD SIGNS FOR WELSH ALL BLACKS

Highly promising 21 year old centre Luke Ford has signed a new contract with Welsh Premiership pace-setters Neath.

The former Wales Under-20 international has been out of action for most of this season after suffering a shoulder injury in the win over Ebbw Vale in September.

It was feared that he would miss the rest of the season but, following surgery, his rehabilitation is ahead of schedule, and he is even hopeful of squeezing in a couple of games before the end of the season.

Luke joined Neath in January 2009 from Cardiff Blues and was one of the stars of Neath's Cup-winning side last season.

He was capped at Under-20's level when Neath coach Patrick Horgan was in charge and played in the 2008 Under-20's World Cup.

Coach Horgan said, "We are delighted that Luke has chosen to stay with us. At 21 years of age, his best years are ahead of him and we have certainly missed his presence and midfield thrust this season."

Luke Ford said, "It is great to have my immediate future settled with Neath. The Club has stood by me despite my injury and I aim to repay that confidence in me in the future.

"It would be nice to get back before the end of the season but it depends on how my rehabilitation goes. If not, I'll definitely be ready for next season and I can't wait as it has been disappointing to miss out this year and I was really looking forward to playing in the British & Irish Cup."

Neath chairman Geraint Hawkes said, "Here at The Gnoll, we have always had an enviable record for progressing young players of talent. Luke certainly fits the bill and, as he showed last season, he is going to be a big part of Neath's future."
