AMBITION ! - NEATH SIGN THIRD WELSH INTERNATIONAL
If anyone needs reminding of the ambition and determination to succeed at The Gnoll, Neath have signed a third Welsh international to boost their challenge for honours in the coming season.
The Gnoll club has captured the signature of 8-times capped back row forward Nathan Thomas from the Scarlets to go alongside the signatures of Kevin Morgan and Nathan Brew that were announced last week as the Welsh All Blacks seek to blend youth with experience.
The 33 year old will bring an extra edge of professionalism to Neath as, apart from his Welsh international honours, he is one of the select band of Welsh players to have won the European Cup, this during his spell with Bath after which he joined Cardiff Blues.
Last season, he appeared occasionally for Llandovery in the Premiership but now has a chance to impress with his ball-carrying and leadership skills at The Gnoll where he will be joined by 22 year old wing Alec Jenkins who played for London Welsh last season.
A former Wales sevens cap, the speedy Jenkins is a strong finisher and was one of the stars of the Wales Under-19's Grand Slam side of 2005/06. His arrival will provide an extra option out wide alongside Kevin James, Wales sevens star David Evans and young Richard Smith.
Neath coach Patrick Horgan is delighted with the new additions and said, "Competition for places is going to be keen throughout the squad. Initial training-sessions have been impressive both in terms of attendance and the hard work being put in."
Neath chairman Geraint Hawkes added, "We are pleased to have secured two more quality signings for what will be an exciting campaign. The signing of 3 international players is an indication of our ambitions for Neath rugby. Our squad is coming together well now but there remain a couple of places to be filled and these will be announced shortly."
