Rowland takes to the streets to raise money for Snid
Neath Rugby will travel to Cardiff in mass on Sunday morning to take part in the Great Wales Run.
Players and coaching staff decided to take park in the run to raise money for the young family of Gareth Jones, the Neath scrum half who passed away in June.
The squad hope to raise in excess of £6,000 for the fund and will also use the race as a training exercise ahead of their first home pre season on August 7th, against Saracens.
Each player has been given a target to raise £200 each for the trust fund, with many boys already reaching the target.
Always game for a challenge director of rugby Rowland Phillips has taken to the streets of Neath and asked the local community to dig deep for Snid.
After a 2hour stint on the streets on Wednesday afternoon the former Welsh flanker and TV star managed to raise over £500.
Phillips has now set himself the goal of raising £1000 by Sunday and has even left sponsorship forms with several Neath businesses to help him reach his objective.
In a ploy to raise even more cash for the worthwhile fund, players have been given target times to complete the race in. Therefore if they take longer, they will be asked to donate a further £5 for every minute they go over.
Rowland Phillips commented :
"The players have already organized several forthcoming charity events with their former clubs and local communities to raise money for Snid.
But for us Sunday will an opportunity for the whole squad to do something as a unit in memory of Snid.
The vast amount of money raised by the team so far demonstrates not only how passionate we are about raising funds for Gareth's three young children and how generous people are being where this fund is concerned."
People can donate by making cheques payable to the Gareth Jones trust fund, or by filling in a Great Wales Run sponsorship form at 13 Old Market St Neath and pledging cash to the fund.
