Just 9 days away from the Big Game

8th May 2008

With just 9 days to go until the two tribes final at the Millennium Stadium, Neath Rugby are getting set for the biggest day of their season.

With the league campaign coming to an end on Tuesday night the Champions are now ready to do battle with the mighty Pontypridd in a showdown match in Cardiff.

Pontypridd and Neath are very similar towns, Ponty has Tom, Neath has Katherine, both 8 miles from a major city, both with rugby teams at the heart of the community.
However what serves both teams so well are their passionate supporters, rugby website Rucked even started the debate last month as to who had the larger volume of supporters, Neath or Ponty!

Neath go into the tie as underdogs after losing to the Valley Commandoes twice in the premiership this season. But memories are still vivid from the last time the two tribes met in the final of the competition in 2006.
A last gasp drop goal from Pontypridd Dai Flanagan sealed the victory for the boys in red, a devastating day for the welsh all blacks.

To rally the Neath community ahead of the Konica Minolta Cup Final, head coach Rowland Phillips and members of the Neath squad have been visiting local schools to promote the big day, with youngsters keen to support the blacks in the final!

Neath Shop proprietors have also been keen to take part in the final fun by giving their shop fronts a rugby touch to ensure the whole town gets behind the boys in black!

So the countdown is on, Saturday 17th May 2008, the question is can Neath out chant the mighty pont?? Answers on a postcard please!
